Speedo's Aquatic Fitness Gloves provide increased resistance in water for greater toning and strengthening of muscles and cardiovascular exercise for your heart and lungs. Made from neoprene, the gloves feature webbed fingers, a rubber palm, and adjustable wrist closure. You'll get smoother movement in water for a more comfortable upper body workout and increased propulsion through the water.

About Speedo
In 1914, Speedo was founded in Australia by Alexander MacRae, a 22-year-old Scottish immigrant who arrived in the country in 1910. The company began when MacRae Hosiery manufacturers, established by Alexander in 1914, extended the manufacture of underwear to swimwear and became MacRae Knitting Mills. A naming competition was held by the staff in 1928 and won by a Captain Parsonson, who coined the slogan, "Speed on in your Speedos." In 1929, the first swimsuits were in production and it didn't take long for Speedo to successfully establish itself. World War II caused the brand turn over 90% of it's manufacturing to war production, providing the armed services with vital equipment such as mosquito nets. After the war, Speedo opened a new factory and was able to re-establish itself, due to increased demand for swimsuits. In 1951, Speedo Knitting Mills (Holdings) Ltd, was incorporated and became a publicly traded company on the Sydney Stock exchange.

Speedo hit the international stage in earnest, at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, and a few years later the brand grew on a more global scale. Export sales to the USA began and an international division was set up to monitor trade in New Zealand, Japan and South Africa. The expansion of the brand continued, and in 1976, Speedo was appointed as the official swimwear for the 1976 Montreal Olympics, where 52 out of 54 countries wore their swimsuits.

Speedo continues to make its mark in the pool and on the beach today. Many world class athletes who wear Speedo include U.S. phenomenon Michael Phelps, legendary Australian swimmer Grant Hackett, world record holder Kosuke Kitajima from Japan, and Holland's Inge de Bruijn.

I got these for my dad for fathers day and he swims every morning during the week, these helped to get his shoulder back up to par after his surgury and make swimming a total workout, def. worth the purchase

5Excellent exercise boost  Jul 19, 2008
First of all, many thanks to all the other reviewers who mentioned that these run large. I wear a XL glove, so I was going to order this in XL. Very glad I didn't - the L size fits just fine, and now that I have one, it's clear the XL would have been too big. That tip from the other reviewers saved me some return postage - thanks!

In terms of the actual glove, it's great. Fits fine, and appears well made. Very secure velcro closure on the wrist.

I use mine for aqua aerobics and to add a "boost" to my swimming workouts. I've used the plastic hand paddle in the past - they are helpful in giving more resistance, but are rather awkward to use. These - if you'll forgive the inevitable pun - fit like a glove and don't get in the way. You can increase or decrease resistance by just expanding or closing your hand.

A word of caution - if you've never used hand paddles or webbed gloves before for exercise, go slow at first. You're putting a lot more strain on your muscles, especially the shoulders. Take it easy at first until you get a feel for the workout, then slowly increase duration and speed. A bit of care will prevent a lot of pain!

5increase your workout  Apr 24, 2008
comfortable, well made gloves. easy to put on with wide velcro tabs. these gloves added great resistance and amped up my workout.

5Great gloves.  Mar 19, 2008
I wanted to add a little resistance to my lap swimming and water aerobic workouts. These gloves work really well. I like that my fingers are free, and the velcro strap makes it easy to adjust.

4Nice, but could be better  Mar 14, 2008
These gloves are very nice. After using them for about 5 months I can't see myself ever doing my laps without them. I was a bit unsure when I decided to get the medium fit but now I'm glad that I did. They fit perfectly. I'm 6' about 200 lbs but do not have very big hands. However, usually when I buy winter or work gloves I get the large size and they work fine. So in other words I feel that these swim gloves "run big". My only complaint with these gloves is that they do not last very long. I use mine for 20 minutes a day, five days a week and found myself needing a new pair after about 4 months. I realize that they are only about $15-$20 but I almost wished they cost more and lasted longer so I wouldn't have to replace them so often. All in all, I recommend them. It adds a whole new element to the swimming and allows for even greater muscle tone.
